I would like to buy a new pickup. I currently have a Tacoma w/ 100,000 miles. Seems weekly I read a horror story about every brand of truck self destructing. This am was Maverick. Back 40/50 or so years ago you only heard of a recall once every couple years. Anything out there trustworthy? Wife drives a Cheby High Country so I'm waiting for that shoe to drop. I know the boss man thinks the Taco will last another quarter million miles!

I would keep driving the Toyota. I 2nd the boss!

I sure wouldn't buy a new Ford. Crazy amount of recalls and dont even have enough service techs to get the repairs done. But Toyota had motor problems on the new tundra motor roe a while maybe still? Chevrolet had a lot of transmission issues among others.

I wont roll the dice on a new one.

GM is having huge issues with certain V8's now too.

Seems like lack of quality control, drive for max profit, and ridiculous fuel mileage strategies have driven most makes and models to all time lows.

I just replaced all the fluids in my 2015 4WD Sierra. GM used 75W-85 in the rear end. Can't hardly find that anywhere. I used 75W-90 (which has been standard gear lube for decades). Turns out they used the 85 weight for increased fuel mileage. Give ma a freaking break.

Trade in your current truck for a new toyota truck.
You will no doubt get an excellent trade value for your current truck with that milage.
I just traded a 7 year old toyota rav 4 trail and got an insane high trade value for it.
That said I have always owned ford trucks,all have been great,and I currently have two.
I considered a toyota truck but did not buy because of the large difference in price between the ford and toyota.

I love my jeep gladiator.My second choice would be a Toyota Tacoma.

I have a 2020 tacoma and love it. I'm very glad I don't need a new truck right now. I would not get a new Toyota truck now.

The Nissan Frontier still has a simple, naturally aspirated 3.8-liter V6 engine. In 2020 when I got the tacoma I didn't even look at the Nissan. With the lack of choices today I probably would.

I sure wouldn't let go of that unless it was for another of the same make.........

A couple of years ago a tree fell on my 2008 Tundra that I had from new. It was a great truck with an 8" bed, dbl. cab 4WD with the legendary 5.7. The frame was starting to get a little scaly but it had lots of years and miles left in it. If the frame would have rusted through Toyota would have replaced it free.

I figured I'd buy a new Tundra. Then I realized they no longer produced a V-8. Big mistake IMO. I looked at the twin-turbo V-6 and it was and is impressive on paper. My concern was putting that that much power and torque in a V-6 has to create a lot of wear and tear. And Toyota was having issues with them at that time.

So I opted for a good , used Tundra, a 2018 identical to my last one except I could not find one with an 8" bed so had to settle for a 6.5' bed (I really don't like that short bed but good luck finding a pick-up with an 8" bed these days.

From what I read the 4th gen Tacos are generally considered more reliable than other manufacturer's similar models. But they did swap out the V-6 for a turbo-charged 4 cyl. Will it prove durable?

If I were to look for a new truck I'd be looking at Tacomas. I'm hoping my Tundra is the last full-size pick-up I'll need because I sure don't want one with that V-6 in it.

I traded a 23 Tacoma for a new Tundra last year. I talked myself into downsizing when I bought the Tacoma, and that was a mistake for me. I'd give the Tundra a serious look, Killbuck. I really like mine.

Sounds like you have the itch for a new truck.
Not my money, so I don't have a dog in the race.
It it were me I would keep the Tacoma. Fix what needs fixing so that it doesn't leave you stranded.
Leave the Nissan where it's sitting !

My 2025 Jeep Willys (2 dr) has been in the shop for a warranty engine replacement for 6 weeks as of today. Keep the Tacoma.

There is nothing made today that I would consider to replace my 2007 Ram 2500 5.9l Cummins w/217,500. 19 y/o and going strong.

Those 5.9 cummins are basically indestructible if taken care of.i had a 2003 with 350,000 on it when I traded and never had a problem with it.

Funny how this topic came up. I have a 2021 GMC Sierra, 5.3L, 4 door, 4x4. Just went over 95k a couple days ago. Over the last week or so, I noticed a shuddering feeling when excelerating, or going uphill. Stopped at my long time mechanic for a talk. I think he said torque converter on the tranny is going. WTH, at less than 100k? I asked what he would buy if buying new. He just bought a new Tundra the night before (his first new vehicle). One of his mechanics also has a Toyota.
My last vehicle was a 2009 Silverado, no tranny issues until 230k.

8 or 10 speed? Those are junk transmissions. My 2015 has the 6 speed, and its had that shudder since 50k. Transmission fluid changes and additives can help. Change the fluid every 30k, and you might get 150k out of them. And you'll wait forever to get a rebuilt. I'd gladly go back to the old 4L60 or 4L80, the pre 2010 types.

My 2023 jeep gladiator 2 years and 7 months later is going strong.No problems so far.Just 17 more payments.

That Taco will rust in half on your salty roads before the engine wears out. Keep it and get rid of the Chevy if it’s a gasser.
