Anyone know what one is worth??? I have a chance to buy a large amount of traps from a retired trapper. I have not seen the trap. Just wondering what it might be worth.

I'm thinking Michigan trapper John Carretti that made the original 12x26 trap and later sold it to MTP??

I believe John's were called "Megabears". I have a few but I don't remember them being 26 inches wide, 16 possibly. They paid for themselves the first winter in incidental rats in beaver sets. Most were caught by the tail so there wasn't a mark on them.

440's Are new to me.

Its an old time trap. I have seen talk on here about them before. I think they were used to catch seals at one time??? But I could be wrong on that.
I believe they were used only in the north.

Now I want to see a picture of one. 440 isn't ringing a bell for me but I got out of trap collecting a long time ago.

I have a beaver trap called a 440 dislocator.
It was given to me by the inventor many years ago to use and give him feedback on its performance.
It had a tension adjustable trigger which I found quite useful in spring open water beaver trapping in current.
It is a fair beaver trap but a lousy otter trap.

I would pay the going rate for any used beaver trap (depending on spring strength).No more or no less.

The Species Specific dislocators were made by a trapper/fabricator John Kulish out of Oconto, Wisconsin.
Well built traps! The 10x10 and 10 x12 models were designed to catch beavers not otters.

Since that was solved and since I haven't seen john in years my guess is his 330 was a 12or 10x16 He also made a skunk specific 160 with a kill bar He also made heavy duty hand rolling jigs for making his own springs interesting man

Otters are a not uncommon incidental here especially pressure sets during early and late ice installations.
So they hang on the wall.
