A buddy sent these to me from his deer camera. He is not hunting (or baiting) but they seem to like his salt block. The area was clear cut several years ago except for some mature Oak so there are some acorns. This property isn't "remote" at all and there is no water or swamps nearby. I find the mid-day movement pretty interesting and thought I would share.

Looks like what you see in the blueberrys here in the early fall some years.
Counted 16 bears once in a big old burn off the Otter rapids road that was ripe with blueberrys.
Definitely looks like they are foraging.

His young kids aren't very excited to head to the deer stand in the dark with the youth deer hunt just over a month away.

Why eat nasty deer when you got all that good healthy bear meat right there.
Cant get a tag or something?

We need to draw a tag here. We used to be able to shoot a deer or bear on the same tag. Then politics and money became more important. I would take a fat yearling doe over a stinking bear ANY day.

Never had a bad eating bear.
Had some good deer and some not so good.

But then again you guys like "Canadian Bacon" too.

I would rather eat a bear verse a deer. I like them both but bear better.

Got a text this morning from friends who tagged out 5/5. They spent a lot of time scouting and hate to think what they spent on bait but they succeeded.

Five bears for five shooters? That is impressive. There certainly isn't a shortage of them no matter what the DNR says.

I went up to help them set up bait stations. Poor berry crop and bery dry so it didn't seem to take much to bring them in. Out of the 14 stations we put out, seven where hit the first night with a couple within an hour or so. They even had them raiding the bait trailer!
