when y'all normally start also how many traps y'all running?




I would like to know how Louisiana trapping Is compared to everyone else....lets start off with I've never trapped in the snow I'm wearing shorts until the end of December and its all flat lol how bout yall? if y'all hv any questions for Louisiana trapping or just Louisiana in general I would love to answer lol

In the boreal forest in the north we start trapping beaver around the 15th of October,This gives us about a month of open water before freeze up.The pelts are coming on to prime at that time and sell for decent money.After freeze up in early to mid november we start to trap mink ermine and marten,then lynx and wolf..
Beaver meat is used for bait for predators,
After the snow and freeze up we have easier acess to the interior parts of our traplines by ski doo since all the rivers creeks and lakes are frozen over with marten and lynx being the main targets.
I usually run around 12 to 20 beaver sets in the fall and in winter I run about 30 marten sets and 3 or 4 lynx installations.
When I was younger I ran about 3 times as many sets.

How do you balance that? As in do you just take time for better sets for better fur?

And I don't know the laws of louisiana but here in north tx we have pretty good laws. I am waiting a little later for fur because I want to start selling.
Our area changes ALOT depending on where you are. For us it's smaller pastures and then lots of cedar trees then with others mixed in. Not as flat as west tx.

Here in Ohio it starts Nov. 10 and we can prestake. Beaver and otter doesn't come in until Dec. 26. We can trap coyotes year round. I'm trying to run around 150 traps this year. We'll see if I get them all out.

What type of traps you running? I am running about 36 coon traps on water mainly and I have 12 number 3dls i am make dogless

Trying to run 90 DPs, 3 dozen 110s, and a dozen MB 550s. I have some other miscellaneous traps I'll be running, but those are the main types.

How do you Stake your traps Beaver Knocker?

our trapping regs are 24 hour check and season opens Nov 30 for all animals that's literally all of our regs lol

Rebar exclusively. Never did trust cable stakes. The one time I used a magic stake, a coyote broke the trap off the chain. I know it wasn't the stake's fault, but I just don't trust them. I held five coyotes with rebar this past winter. I use T-stakes in water and welded washer on land. It is heavy, but it works, and it's 100% reusable.

I am doing the same thing but I run nuts on all of mine.
I have tried washer and liked them but nuts look cleaner and work the same.

You good Cajun boy just remember we get a lot of good seasons from hunting to fishing read the rules you may encounter situations while trapping where you have to call the game wardens. Do everything you can to make sure you don’t give them a reason to give you a fine

Outdoor todd, I do have some nut stakes I run, but I've had a couple slip on me. They do look cleaner and stack nicer though.

I think for most stuff the season opens around the 16th every October. First few weeks its fairly easy trapping and then you get into the snow and that complicates it in some ways yet simplifies it in other ways. I'll probably be running a few dozen traps this year
