Are you spose to use straight wax or boiling water with melted wax on top so it coats the trap when pulled out?

Not sure how others do it but I use a double boiler. Wax in 1 pot sitting in a pot of boiling water, keeps from burning the wax. Put traps in wax pot let st 10 to 15 minutes so trap is same c temp as wax the hang

Boiling water is no good,doesnt get the wax hot enough.
For proper waxing,the wax needs to be hotter than 212f to boil off all the moisture in the trap and leave a hard thin coating that sticks real tight to the dyed metal.
Trap should be waxed immediately after removing from the dye boil.
Do all your snares the same way at the same time when doing traps.

I have 2 pots one is for dye and the other is wax.
Would do the boiling water with wax on top way, so this year I'll do straight wax.
So much to learn the correct way of doing things.

Flash point of parrafin wax is 400f+ not much chance of it catching fire unless you spill it.
Keep a lid for the wax pot handy incase it flashes.and make sure you have a big enough wax pot so that you can cover the biggest traps (330s) and not have the pot too full of wax.
I dye and wax outdoors on a fire.

So is the odorless trap wax and the parrafin wax used for canning the same?
Guess my next question is is it ok to use that canning wax for waxed sand? Our Hardware Hank got bought out so I got bout 15 blocks for $2 a piece.

Not positive but believe canning wax and parrifin wax are the same. In regards to waxes sand, in my experimenting have found that sand does not wax the same as sifted dry dirt, maybe it was the sands I was using but personally I wasn't excited with the sand and did not get same results.

Wax coats sand since it’s just ground rock whereas dirt, being mostly all organic material, absorbs wax before it coats!
