I've seen some big ones up here this summer. The ant you stomp on but it keeps on going.

This is what we call 'em....Cow Killers!

Along about the age of 10...I cut one in half...then picked up the wrong half. Goodness Gracious! I can still remember that pain 52 years later!!!!

I've seen only two velvet ants and it's been many years. They aren't common here.

We do get the impressive cicada killer wasps. Our backyard, when I was a child, had many of them. I spent hours killing them. Hitting them with a honeysuckle switch, blew them to pieces and bug juice, which if you did it right, covered you buddies and brother. They get 2" long.

That works better if the water is hot
It suffocates them just like bee's
