Hey fellas. Got a safe queen old weatherby vanguard in 22-250 that figure to maybe use this year. What are you guys using for fur friendly factory offered shells?

I’ve never ran them but I’ve heard the Winchester silver tips do ok. When ran my 250 I found velocity was my biggest problem. It seemed to tear more holes than anything. I did run the Barnes varmint grenades and they were great on fur but I couldn’t get them to throw better than 1.25” groups That’s my 2 cents. Great caliber though.

Great caliber, shot placement is very critical, I’ve found frontal is the best, BUT the critters don’t always follow directions as to where to come in and pause, virtually any broadside that’s high is going to require a great deal of sewing. I’ve used a lot of vmax.

If you RELOAD might try Sierra 55 grain spitzer boat tails pushed by 37.4 grains IMR 4064, a try especially for shot further than 150 yards seldom even get an exit wound, less than 100 yards gonna have some serious sewing to do.
At least that loaf works for me in my Sako Forrester but you'll have to work what is best for your rifle. That load they are DRT out to 275 yards, at least that's the longest I've had to shoot broadside behind shoulder.

Like was already said, dont shoot high. Lot of sewing. Hit the chest. Dead right there.

Saw my brother shoot one with some Herters soft point and it was fur friendly. I know very small sample set but it’s all I got

not sure how the .224's will do, but the 20 cal, 39 gr speer tnt hp will not exit a groundhog out of my 20 tac.

Hornady V-Max 55 gr. I reloaded all mine, still have a few hundred rounds. It has been awhile since I loaded them so I don't recall powder or the charge weight. If you hit an animal where you should on coyote or bobcat there was not an exit hole.

Standard load is 38.0 gr of H380 behind a 55 gr. in the 22-250

Not a problem. I do reload but having a tough time finding time to do it.

Im more of a fan using the tougher cup and core bullets made for medium game. Them varmint bullets do a lot of damage if they come out the other side.
