Time to turn off fox news.

Canada has very high social program spending. Like most north american countries, the birth rate is plumetting (1.25 per woman) and without population augmentation these programs cannot be supported by the existing tax base. In an attempt to offset this difference, the government allowed higher immigration.
The vast majority of chinese and Indian folks are the same as us - they are good people and they want a brighter future for their children. In hindsight I would say that we could have done a better job of screening newcomers to try and reduce criminal elements but off course the US knows all about that.

I guess that some folks would have had similar thoughts in the late 40s and 50s when the immigrants were dutch, german, irish, etc.
The difference was that these people were catholic or protestant and that time. Not so much now.

Btw, the US has the same issue as Canada. Remember open borders? What do you think led to that decision?
The US birth rate is only slightly above Canada’s and is not sustainable without immigration.
