After losing a bunch of birds last fall, I needed to upgrade the dig defense around my chicken coop and run. I had 1x2 wire buried, but found out the hard way mink can get through that. So, I replaced it with 1/2 wire cloth. 18 inches wide, with one edge bent up and stapled to the wood. Then buried back in. Hopefully this keeps the little buggers out.

When I came home to 14 of 20 chickens dead that day, the thought crossed my mind.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I keep traps around the coop and run, for rats, possums and raccoons mainly.

The attack last fall was opening day of mink season. 4 of them died the next 6 days, in pocket sets baited with chicken.

Does the sun rise?
Is a bluebird blue?
Does a wild pig poop in the woods?

I joke that that's one of two animals my coops won't protect from. The other is weasels.

Hot wires will deter bears. Weasels are just too dang small.

Luckily, we don't have bears, and weasels are pretty scarce.

Haven't really seen a need here for one yet.
