If u have bowhunted enough and long enough one realiizes the possibility for a bad shot is going to happen to everyone no matter how good they are with a bow. Shooting such a slow moving projectile amplifiers the possibility greatly. And thats where terminal performance really comes into play. We dont live in a perfect world especially in bowhunting.

I like Muzzy 3 blades but even above those I cherish the relationship with my wife and the vows I made to Jesus.

If I chased elk, I'd certainly be looking for a quality fixed blade, but a quality mechanical has not failed me yet on any north american whitetail. Ive had best luck with Grim Reapers and been able to reuse them multiple times. The time might come that I have a failure, but I dont lay awake at night fretting about possibilities....if I do my part, im confident the head will do its part.

I just bowhunt whitetails (and the occasional feral hog.)

I switched from Muzzy 90gr 4 blade fixed about 10 or 12 years ago. Had shot those for 25 years. More weak blood trails than heavy, but I killed a lot of deer and hogs with them.

Decided I'd try an expandable (Wasp Jak-Hammers 3-blade) due to the 5 star reviews that have piled up over past 2.5 decades.

Best decision I've ever made. These Jak-Hammers are absolutely perfect for my use. Wow! What some blood trails!

I've stocked up on them in case they stop making 'em.

Also, I've killed several thick-bodied north Missouri bucks with them...perfect results!

Great flight. Never failed to open. No deflection. Tough, thick blades. Easy replacement of blades. Ferrule does'nt bend easily. 100 grain...1.75" cut. And the blood trails...did I already mention the blood trails?

Those mechanicals do fail at times when a fixed blade broadhead would have done the job. Not very often but they work great until that one case they dont.

And blades break off fixed blades too. I've cut my paws while gutting on plenty of lost razors from Muzzys and Thunderheads and Wasps.

Like was already stated. (For deer) I'll take the huge holes the mechs make and accuracy over the fixed blades any day. I was a Muzzy guy forever, then made the switch. I'll never go back if I don't have to.

They do leave an impressive blood trail ill give u that no doubt. Never lost a blade on a thunderhead in a deer myself and have busted a bunch of bone with them in 30+ years of hunting. First time ive personally heard of that being a problem.

Wouldn't call it a "problem" but it does happen. Smashing razorblades through ribs will cause that sometimes.

At the end of the day, long as your digging them out of a dead critter what does it matter?
