Wade Lacey trapper Joined: Dec 2006 Georgia	Yes. If you remove the rubber pads you can bolt the steel pad holder strips back on the jaws making it an offset laminated jaw trap.

Leftlane "HOSS" Joined: Dec 2009 The Hill Country of Texas	I used to remove the pads as soon as I got a Jake or 2 but at some point I got a set from a rondy that were already waxed up with the pads in place. I ended up setting them like that figuring to remove the pads the next year but the way they handled incidental coons convinced me to leave them in place. My only wish after that was that they be a lil smaller and thats what we have available now. My own opinion w/o putting my hands in one is that they might well be the perfect predator trap. Conner is quite the engineer and everyone knows it. What"s good for me may not be good for the weak minded. Captain Gus McCrae- Texas Rangers

I was asking more out of curiosity if, and when, the pads are damaged and possibly not available, would the traps still be serviceable without modification. Sounds that way. I never had a problem holding big midwestern coon in the rubber-less Jakes but I am sure smaller ones could have probably pulled out. But I have caught piles of coyotes in them without the rubbers. I do NOT need anymore traps.... but I really want to order some of these...... Regret is the one thing I just won't do ~~ Beth Dutton Every truce is an opportunity to reload.
