Have you figured anything out regarding causes for skunk movement or lack of? Just when I think I have it figured out and anticipate full traps with a front moving in or maybe consistent weather, I get humbled.

If someone gave me 100 traps to set and said I would get $10,000 if I caught one the next day I bet I would come up short. Skunks around here are like weasels, you never know where you're going to get one. I think my best year was 8 or 10 when I trapped fox heavy.

Yep, skunks are easy to catch....until they aren't. I've had traps out before a nice brisk fall cold front moves through and the next day had nearly 60% of my traps plugged with skunks. Then a season or two later I see the same sort of front coming in and get all excited only to catch a couple of skunks. I've thought that waiting until nights are colder or at least below freezing would be a good idea as this should get the skunks really moving before denning up. Didn't work.....apparently they were all denned up before November. Then again I've caught skunks in mid December with two feet of snow on the ground while marten trapping. It's just difficult to find any rhythm in the life of a skunk.

Skunks are like bears when it comes to denning up for winter.
They will den early in years when no food is available and conversly, they can stay out very late well into winter if they have consistent food available.

I have a few things dialed in that work. It’s incredibly wet out there and that does not work.

Back trailing skunks to denning places during the snare bait station season when they beat a trail to your carcass bait,has paid off…if you can remember where some of those places were next season. They den up right under our noses…

I have 48 sets out over 30 miles.

I like it when the neighbors call me to remove skunks from their cage traps.

I would like an extra hole cut bigger here and there for my syringe pole program…I hate cages for skunks…
