Post Sets. What are your top performing lures? Which urine do you use fox or coyote ??

I used Mark June's Smokey Post and Dunlap's Cryptic with average success. What is everyone else using ??/

For urine post,I use a squirt of red fox urine for fox AND coyotes. For a rubbing post,,i find a dab of beaver castor hard to beat. They love to rub on that for some reason.Thats why I dont like castor in my dirt holes.Creates a rubbing(rolling) response.Thats what I find up here anyhow.Could be different in the "Show Me" State.

Have u ever seen a coyote rub on a post? Ive tried to get them to on video and couldn't. Tried several lure they will roll all over if u put it on the ground. Putting it on a post at shoulder height actually seemed to make them nervous here. As far as a rolling response, coyotes will roll on anything and everything they find really attractive. I wouldn't trap coyotes with anything they wont roll on. The more attraction the more catches. Just got to know how to use it.

Whatever works for you,,is what you should use.I personally dont like them rolling all over my traps.I like them stepping on them.

Don’t know about coyotes, don’t have them here. Any gland lure works just fine on the foxes.

A fox will dance all over to get it. Don’t know that you can get a coyote to do that as we don’t have them. I would think just by being bigger would be one thing that would keep them from doing it.

Why would you smear it high and only allow yourself 2 chances for a catch when smearing it low so they can straddle it tripling (6) your chances for a catch??? From my videos I can prove coyotes approach a scent (post, clump, grubstake) at about 9”-10” and STOP, then they take another step so that now they stop about 5”-6” from the scent and then they STRADDLE the scent and (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman)! Time after time after time! That equals 6 chances for a foot in the trap!

Would you care to share those videos with us?

Sure, go to my Utube channel and you’ll find a several that shows exactly what I described with coyotes and gland lure on a small clump of grass. There are also a couple of videos showing what happens when I brought in a post when I was testing gland lures if you’re interested. There is even a couple of grubstake tests that videos shows coyotes doing the same thing.

I went and looked. All that showed me is there was something you did at that post set that Coyotes did NOT like.Wouldnt even get near it.Go back and watch Hobbies video and see how a rubbing post set is supposed to work.

No sense argueing with you over it you do you mr master baiter

As far as post sets i think people get wrong what a scent post actually is

If you smear a lure up high on a rub rock in the warmer months itl get them to want to rub is all i said
You are just makeibg the rolling responce a little more controlled
When you work behind other guys you just got to think a lil diffrent

But im.sure you done that years ago on youtube and wrote the book on it
I applaud your master baiting status

Good day
