My wife and I were in Milwaukee for my Cardiologist Appointment. After my Doctor we stopped by Dunhams. Our Grandson is taking his Hunter Safety course so we wanted to get him his first Gun. We were looking for one that has a Rifle over a shotgun. Wanted a 20 gauge if possible. Then he could Small Game hunt as well as Deer Hunt. Walked into Dunhams and when we explained we wanted to buy it for our 12 year old Grandson a real loser started walking up and down the Aisles yelling " GOT A STRAW SALE GOING RIGHT HERE"!!!!!! Then kept pointing at my wife and I. The Manager came over and I told him that POS LYING PUNK better learn what a straw sale is. The MANAGER also claimed that anyone buying a gun for anyone else is a Straw sale!!! I told him to call the Police and lets find out. My wife said I already have. When the Officer came in he explained what a Straw Sale is is buying a Gun for someone who is a felon and cannot legally buy one. The Manager explained to me that he still would not allow the sale because it violated his Stores Policy. Went to Cabela's and explained it the Gun Department they showed us EXACTLY what we were looking for and was amazed that Dunhams would treat customers that way. Now My Grandson will be coming over this weekend and a Buddy I grew up with told him that if he comes to his Farm he can Squirrel Hunt all day and he will pay him for every Rat he shoots in his Barn of a night. Will NEVER step foot back into a Dunhams again.

Dunham's is a sports apparel store that sells a couple guns

if you can't support a local dealer who lives in your community , Scheels and Cabela's at least understand what you are doing and won't throw a fit.

you could say I am purchasing a shotgun for my grandson to use while hunting with me and I am mentoring him.
if you then give it to him after he has shown you he is responsible that is on you

Cabelas is much closer to Fond du lac but since my wife is from West Allis and where my Doctors are we just stopped in to price check. We already checked Both Gun shops in Fond du lac do not carry or have what we are looking for.

Fleet farm in Fondy is fine as well , they have a decent selection on most current shotguns , probably significantly more selection than Dunhams

Fleet Farm was he first place we checked as well as the Gun Fishing hole on North Main. Actually Fleet Farm is the one that told us to check Cabelas and if they don't have it they can check all of the Cabelas inventory and have it shipped to their store for Pick up. We only checked Dunhams because I wanted to kill time between Doctors. BTW according to Cabelas you can buy a gun for Family that has no Felonies. Our 12 year old does not.

What Dunhams store was it specifically?

Even though I am Canadian and can't easily buy a gun in the USA without causing someone to lose their FFL... I quit going to Dunham's entirely when they pulled AR platforms off the shelves. They are not friends to ggun owners IMO

Exactly this...people have short memories. Havent been into Dunhams since they gave in to pressure and pulled ARs. Too bad too, they used to have great seasonal sales on firearms safes....Ill willingly pay more at any other location than Dunhams....

Very seldom shop at Dunhams,but the AR thing must be state by state , or a local thing . Plenty of AR's at Dunhams here in West Virginia.

Why would you tell them who you're buying for? Do you have to disclose that information?

They can't but they can receive long guns as gifts.

I don't think there is a requirement to disclose your intention to gift it to a minor but I could be wrong.
