Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement with aorta aneurysm fixed on the 13th. Surgeon reported no surprises. Feeling like I got hit by a truck but everything is going in the right direction.Should be out of the hospital by Sat. Thank you for all your support! It's sounds like I'm going to cardiac rehab some after I get home. Thanks again

The ReHab works great. Be sure to FOLLOW THE ADVICE YOU ARE GIVEN, these teams have done thousands of these and not just one.

Good luck. Are pig valves used anymore. Let us know your outcome. Will pray for you tonight.

Yes, I had open heart surgery in May, 2020 (age 66, then) to have my Aortic Valve replaced. My original valve was so calcified that a TAVR procedure wasn't an option. I received a bovine replacement and it's due for replacement in the next 2 - 3 years (likely), hopefully a TAVR next time around.
Best wishes !
Regards, Vic

Home this past Sat. late afternoon, getting into a routine for drugs and sleep is slowly coming around. Slept for 3 1/2 hours at a shot last night by moving from the bed to chair. Will start cardiac rehab after I finish my Lasix, I've been up walking several times a day and it's getting easier. The day looks to be nice enough to get outside and take a short walk and sit outdoors for a bit. Again THANK YOU for all the thoughts and prayers as we go through this journey. Tom

Tom-

The cool, crisp Fall air, especially when matched with sunshine, can have remarkable healing potential. Get out and enjoy another day! They will progressively be better!

A rocking chair on a sunny porch and a blanket across your lap might be some good medicine today. An old dog that naps by your side is also good for what ails you.

Walking is a great way to speed your recovery. I started a few days after I was home from open heart surgery. You can feel yourself getting stronger everyday.

Two things I did post-op that made my life easier was I got an electric recliner with a lift feature. I slept on it the first week after discharge when lying in bed and getting out of bed was too painful.

The other was a shower chair to sit on while showering when I was too weak or it was too painful to stand in the shower.

Eh...wot?

All good Ideas: We built a platform to put my recliner on before surgery. Mary works the handle on the side of the chair. Did get a shower chair but really don't need it. Legs are feeling strong when standing.

My recovery is moving along slow but sure. Cardiac rehab 3 days a week tires me out but am getting stronger. Makes me sad to miss deer hunting, I've hunted every season since 1969. Good luck to all of you that hunt. Take care and be safe.
