Some time around mid November I catch a couple of raccoon, skin, flesh and board. If they are not blue, trapping season for me starts. If they are very light blue I'll wait another week and start.

I'm getting ready to go run a little fur line. Marten and coyote are on the menu. Just starting to gather up the gear and make sure trap tags are on and so forth. be about the end of the month when I travel the 80 miles to camp. I think my wife is going with me this year, she normally only visits camp but is going along to help this year. Its nice to get away from the ADC work for a week or two. If we start getting snow I might switch gears and go farther east to hunt for a cow elk. I have a tag for my muzzleloader I really need to fill this year with the price of meat.

I started skunks about 10 days ago and I might set a canine trap this weekend, but the season opener for water trapping is the 24 th of October..

After Christmas. May catch a few coons with the grandkids this winter so I'll start about mid December.

Season officially starts 1 Nov, however been trapping all year with the Nuisance work, will really get after the fur after Thanksgiving if weather cooperates and get some cold temps and snow (hopefully enough to keep the pedal pushers out of the woods)

Mink ,Otter, and Muskrat open November 1st.
Marten and Bobcat open December 1st.

Thinking about setting up for some coyotes this weekend,
and trap about a week before before big game season.

September 1st Beaver opened , I did a beaver job and got 3.
Other critters are nongame or predators and can go when ever.

Let me sugar coat this

First weekend of Dec. I set a little bit for coons and mink. Till Jan.1 then I set for everything, and I pull traps Feb. around the middle of the month. That’s when my work starts to pick up.

Tom, do you ever ship cats? If so what grades do they make? If I catch December cats they generally go semi-hvy, but by February they all go HVY Western.

Just because a season is open doesn't mean the fur is prime yet.

In today world trapper are manipulated into trapping early to down load the cost of for example nuisance beaver, September and you start getting the fall rain and beaver start moving the phone at the DNR office starts ringing off the hook.

Simple solution is to open the season early and the trapper will do it for free.

Trapper demographics is old guys, nice weather they go.

Another example is early raccoon seasons to keep the dog hunters happy.

Pressure from a group with no interest in fur value.
