I only need them to check snares out the truck window. 25 yards at the most.
What power should I look for ?
8 or 10 BUT you should take a snare with you hang it on something 25-30 yards away at the store and make sure you can see it with enough detail , sort of half hide in on like a clothing rack.
power means a lot less than clarity and that is not a number they give you on the box.
you can also take a printable eye chart or find writing on a box at the store in varied size and see what you can read then walk over to it.
doing this test over the years at stores helping people find binos back when stores had a rack of hunting videos I took my mom to help her pick out a pair for my dad. about 30 years ago
we played what video title can you READ , you could see the boxes but with some pairs you couldn't read the title only see it was there but very hard to make out.
now he wanted Stieners and he got Stieners but not before we tried a lot of others none at the time could compete
glass quality of the lower cost binos have gotten a lot better.
when I bought my Nikons I was at a street sale and the camera company had a booth I was able to read peoples t-shirts 4 blocks away they had reasonably large print but that was enough that I knew I could make out antlers farther than I could reasonably shoot at the time.
if you said I just want a Bino you think will work for me I can order today have delivered to the house. I would say probably the Vortex Crossfire HD 8x42 would do what you are looking for they are currently 139 dollars on Midway
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1021171332?pid=602512those would be about as budget as I would try to go and looking through them is alwasy ideal with comparison
there might be one 30 dollars more that is like wow I can see more clearly with these.
