Have caught a pile of raccoon with water sets and 1.5 coil/long springs. I currently have 12 or 13 of the critters eating my deer corn. No dogproofs, my question is....could i wire a piece of bait to the pan of a 1.5 longspring and set it on dryland near my bait? Or would i be better off buying a dozen dogproofs. Z traps the best on the market? Thanks

Wiring bait to the pan might not be much help. I'd not worry about catching and holding deer hooves with a regular 1.5 or #2. If you're worried about keeping deer out of yer sets just catch the coons in little cubbies baited with sardines or something deer wouldn't eat or git into.

Yep like Left lane mention. Put few cubbies maybe using small boxes or soup cans to put sardines in and bury trap in front. Sardines are good bait.

Make a fox/coyote set with those 1.5s. Guarantee if there's a coon around it'll be waiting on you in the morning.

I would recommend dog proof (I prefer dukes). Put a circle of traps around your corn pile. You’ll have them all by morning smile Nothing fancy they’re already eating corn so use that for bait maybe something sweet on top!

Yea was just trying to avoid dropping the money on dogproofs right now. Have a bunch of longsprings right now.

Get an old 45 gallon drum, cut the top off and use some veg oil on the inside.
Then nail it upright to the side of a big tree and throw some corn or whatever coons like to eat in the bottom of the barrel.
They will climb the tree, and drop into the drum and wont be able to get out.
Check it every day until they are thinned out enough.

Hope your joking because we have seen them help each other get to a deer feeder motor and spin corn out

Try using a pole set.
Take a 5' piece of rebar, weld a 6" piece across the top about 5-6" down. shove 2' of the bar into the ground, put the bait at the top so when the coon stands up to smell the bait, it will step on the pan, and get caught.
Also works very well in water sets.

The drum thing does work as mentioned, but the 55 gal size is what was used. No, not joking.

Guess I should have said 205 liter drum since the us gallon is almost 1 liter smaller than the Imperial gallon.
