So for all you open carry enthusiasts, what is your preferred holster/holster style?
Per my state law, I am not eligible to apply for a CCW until I am 21, but I can open carry at 18. I've used a 1791 gun leather holster, including on a week long elk trip in CO with no retention issues, but I worry about my pistol being too exposed and easily snach-able from behind. That's kind of led me to considering switching to a holster with a thumb break, or cross draw.

If i was to go to open carry strong side leather holster tied down on the leg and low off of the belt with a hog leg sized 6 gun in it.

You should get a safety retention holster. To remove the gun, on most, you turn the handle in towards your ribs, while pushing down. People trying to disarm you pull the handle out and up, which locks it in harder and prevents the gun from coming out of the holster.
The belt is very important too. I would wear a Velcro belt with a good deal of overlap, at the least. Feed the overlap through the belt loops, as you put it on and keep pulling the belt to the right, through the loops. You want at least 4 loops of overlap.
If someone tries to pull the gun out of your holster, don't grab the gun and try to hold it in, hammer them with the meaty part of you fist, right where their head and neck meet, on the spine. It's very easy to do when they are bent forward, when you step forward and then step back. Hit them as hard as you can. It can easily be a lethal hit, but you are legally justified in using deadly force in this situation. The last guy I hit there was unconscious for over an hour.
To find the spot, make a hammer fist and lightly tap on the back of your neck, where it touches your head, while looking in a mirror. You will feel it when you hit it. Don't do it hard or you will pass out. A little above or below is much less effective.
I taught this technique to my guards for 18 1/2 years. It works.

Not a fan. Just makes you a target and your likely get shot with your own gun. Your reactive not pro active. I have had the options to carry concealed or open since I was 18. Im 46 and still dont.
Since you will insist abd cary open any way get a poster with double retention so you dont get your gun removed from you.
When will this happen? Been open carry for many years.

I've had a concealed carry permit in MN for many years now. MN doesn't allow open carry as far as I know. But, it doesn't matter either way for me cause I wouldn't open carry anyway.
If most of the democrats had their way, MN wouldn't allow any form of carry. With all the shootings in the Twin Cities they keep trying to make it more restrictive for all Minnesotans when it comes to firearms ownership.

When will this happen? Been open carry for many years. And how often have you been in a defensive shooting. Never but you still carry. Just becuse it has not happened and may not dose not change tha facts it makes you a target. You may believe it makes you a .deterrent it doesn't. It just tells a criminal where to get a gun and who to take out first. Same way NRA and glock or other gun stickers on vehicles tell everyone whats the best vehicles to break into and look for a gun.

Sane criminals would rather just rob somewhere else, rather than trying to disarm someone. There's plenty of easier targets out there. Insane or stoned criminals may act differently
Keith There are plenty of videos showing ther are plenty of tough open cary guys geting their guns stolen and some being shot with them. It clearly happens Have an armed garde in the bank or school everyone know who and where he stands. Just the first thing to take out on the check list.

Rather not carry at all than open carry, if its concealed noone will see it. Be an outlaw. not suggesting anyone break the law but the fine is 100 dollars if you do yet caught having your jacket slip over your carry gun.

Not going to lie, I initially through about it, but I wouldn't consider a class A misdemeanor a 100 dollar fine....
