Just to clarify, Beaver sac oil or something else?

I have nothing clever to put here.

Tatiana is that a marten? If so that is a different color my guess not so desirable.

(not my pic)

Wow! that is crazy. Sable/marten are such fascinating creatures: from the tropics to the arctic.

I was surprised not one comment said martin magic, I have had good luck with it in the past. I'm going to try some gusto this year also. I'm also going to try half a tulipe for bait.

So with a good number of people saying skunk quill.. another post said meat is meat when its cold. How about using a skunk leg that might or might not have some quill left on it? Just my thought on 2 birds one stone.
Also for those that use bird wings, do you hang the wing under or above the box opening?

Ya can't miss fur if yur traps are out somewhere.
Or so I've been told.

Well, meat is not meat, IMHO. Put two sets 10 yards apart, one with a piece of pork chop, the other a scrap of venison and do this on 10 sites. See which produces. I'll bet on the venison.
As for a skunk leg, the marten isn't looking to eat the smell, it is curious what that strange odor is. It brings it to the area of the set.
Using wings for me was also a visual attractor but also worked by itself in certain situations. For instance, hanging off the end of a suspended pole set, with a foothold on the very end of the pole.

Just doing what I want now.

My experience is that skunk scares marten in some areas. They have never smelled it before.

I use just a wing hanging above and slightly beyond the trap....a foothold

Here's my theory: skunk essence makes their little eyes water. The tears freeze on their face and turn to ice. It's a mess...!

I like it that way! When their eyes are all blurred up with tears they can't see the trap!
