I put out a few sets over the weekend. Not a lot of action yet. Lots of farming activity going on right now.

Sure hoping the weather cools down some.

Quick question, I'm trapping a couple nuisance beaver jobs. Hide worth tanning for hangers or not?

Yup wall hanger fur doesn't need to be perfectly prime just dont want holes or bald spots.

Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.

Put a few dog-proofs out on three farms Sunday. I've caught 7 coon, 1 skunk and 5 possum. I made the mistake of telling my wife yesterday that I hadn't caught a possum, knock on wood. Today I had all 5. I think the coon had late litters because the young ones are running pretty small. The big boars have decent fur but the young ones aren't very good yet. I'm holding off before setting the large line until they get better quality fur. Good luck to everyone and be safe out there.

Thanks for the update Lance. We did a Learn to Trap last weekend, and two coons caught were pretty little and really dark leather.

Trapped for rats in north central WI for 3 days. Most flowages too dry to trap. Found a place and caught a few dozen and a small mink.

Okay I will play.
My son has a bobcat tag so we got out a small line for few days. No luck with the cat but he managed to pinch couple coyotes. I also caught One big male coyote. We made farmer happy removing the coyotes alone with 10 big coon and handful of opossum.
Being Im getting pretty slow I was happy to get out for few days. The farm we are on is pretty big so we put 8 miles on my sons Ranger each day checking our 28 sets.

My son with young female coyote.

Younger male coyote caught in corn stubble. Number 2 bridger I pinched my finger in LMAO

2 big coon that none trappers would call 50lbs. One on left 22lbs one on right 28lbs. I weighed them using my digital fish scale. Everyone knows scales lie.

Shout out to Gary one of the original Grizz traps still getting things done. Didn't seem to matter I dipped them pink

Pick all our traps up yesterday afternoon good deal as poured rain last night. Tomorrow I'm going to ride along with young guy. He has bunch traps out for while think he has caught 2 coon 2 opossum. Its his first year trapping so going sèe can I help him out.

Had a couple decent boar coons today. One was almost prime, the other still blue.
Fur looked really good.

My son and I set a few creeks around home yesterday for mink and muskrat. Didn't do the midnight big marsh set up this year. Good to be out! Saw a few other trappers out and about too.
Checked this morning with my son and youngest daughter, she was bummed she didn't have time to go yesterday. Great day to be out! Hopefully pile up a few critters in the coming months. My daughter is pretty excited about the upcoming season.

A few pics from this morning. As always have fun and enjoy your time out there!

Nice catches Mac and son! Good to see you out getting it done!

Was on a site we had not trapped before. lot of hard paddlling to set yesterday and today my catch was low. Not hardly any small rats as production is low this year.

Trapper Bill accompanied me on one of the local waterways for a one night set of a couple dozen rat traps. We went home with the meager catch of 10 rats. Drought is having an impact around here. It was still fun to get out.
Thanks to Bill for supplying the muscle behind the oars.

At least you got 10! No rats to speak of here this year either.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Nice pics and catches Walt!

The trapping bug seems to be hitting my youngest daughter pretty good. Yesterday after checking our handful of traps she wanted to set more. Gave the neighbor a shout and before long we were setting up his pond. A good time with my daughter(12) asking how to, how come type of questions. She's learning now! No school today so before bed last night she told me how excited she was to check today and put in more.

A beautiful rainy day on and off! We had fun!

Second check on the marsh. Water has gone down about 3-4 inches since we set on Saturday. Tough paddling and some traps our out of the water. No small rats yesterday. Today 2-3 kits and one the smallest rat I have ever caught. We will pull on Wednesday. I have some spots to set up on Friday and Sunday.

Deerfly, I think the man behind the camera knows a thing or two about trapping that he's teaching her. Congrats!
I bet she skins all her own critters too!

Great pictures guys. It's nice to see the young people involved. I'm up to 41 coon now and somewhere in the low 20's for possum. I have also caught 5 muskrat and a buck mink. The mink leather is pretty blue but they should be prime pretty soon. I have very few water sets out and with this rain, they were out of service yesterday. I had to spring my coon line yesterday so I wouldn't tear up the farm fields. Good luck everyone. Looks like we'll have some dryer weather coming.
