It’s that special time of year when we get to reflect more increasingly on the things in life that matter. While I love trapping season, I love Christmas time more. I have a dozen brand new dp’s that I’m wanting to donate to a good cause. Let’s break it into 2 half dozens. I’d like to know of a child that would especially appreciate these, either for Christmas or now to use. (Wouldn’t hurt to tell about the nominee) I’ll mail them out to the top two selected, that this group feels could use these 2 half dozen traps. Please share on this thread who and why you feel should get them and we’ll get them mailed out in the next week or two to them. I’ve included a pic for eye appeal. [Linked Image]

I've got no one to nominate but what a nice thing to do! Thank you.

Well, I don't them but I have seen their interest and and desire for trapping here on TM. I would nominate Big Sam's crew. The kids are out there doing it and I would bet they will be lifers in the trapping world. I also would bet they would put them to use.

A very nice act of kindness and Thank You!

I agree with this, but also think the interested children Sam has been taking along, whose dads don't trap, might be better canidates, because they likely don't have, or have access to traps.

Snowy and Keith, I appreciate the nominations. But I would have to respectfully decline. My kids, and the kids that we have been trapping with, are doing well as far as traps are conserned. I made sure of that.

I suspect there are kids out there that could make better use of some trapping iron.

I don't know what the trap situation is, but after thinking about it, I'd like to nominate the grandkids that belong to Papa Dozer, if they could use them.

It's not that I have good character. It's mostly that I'm part of this great community. People like 160user, yotetrapper30, Skratmandoo, Sheepdog, wheelers, trapset, and others have all given us trapping supplies or sold them to us well below their real value. It has allowed us to acquire far more traps than we need so that we can give away traps to kids that aren't in as good of a situation.

What a wonderful idea and generous offer to put out there.

I know of a young man named Beckett, he is home schooled and is a bit of a special needs young man. I believe he is 9 -10 years old but don't quote me on that. His parents own a working farm. I met Beckett a year ago while working our Dist. 3 Trappers booth at one of our county fairs.

He was very interested in our tanned fur display and some traps we had displayed. Naturally we got to talking about trapping. At that point I did not know he had connected with my old friend Don the season before.

Don was trapping canines on his dads farm so he had already been introduced to trapping. He was very excited riding along with Don when he could do so. He got the trapping bug for sure from what I hear from Don.

I had mentored Don many years ago when he was a young man and he is now mentoring this young man. Don I believe is 68 now. He is a very good trapper, however he has some physical limitations, age related, that are wearing him down. Not sure how many more seasons he will be able to trap.

I applauded him for mentoring this young man and taking time away from his own lines.

Don has been spending as much time as he can with the young man. Beckett really likes water trapping but he has been taught some skills of predator trapping and has done many ride alongs with Don on his line.

I think Beckett would be highly thrilled and very excited with those DP traps and would be a good candidate. I would like to put him into the running at this time. He is currently running a small trap line on a stream running through their farm for the last 2 weeks or so I understand.

Thank you for his consideration.

Bob J.

Fantastic nomination and thank you for being mindful of this young man. We'll keep him in mind for sure! This is exactly what I'd like this to be for!

This is a great thread and an awesome gesture. I appreciate the nomination by Big Sam of my grandkids and they would definitely get use out of them. With that being said I feel there may be other kids out there that are in more of a need of some traps then my grandsons. Hopefully there are more nominations made and some kids will be made very happy by some new DP traps.
