I have a 2019 Silverado that I just got. Anyone use an AFM delete plug in? Is there a particular brand that you recommend? There are a ton available online. Thanks And I know I know I should have bought a ford or dodge but I didnt.

You done right! I just bought a creampuff 05 Silverado 4x4, and am already in love after my 01 S-10 crapped out.

I have a 2018. I bought the plug in delete and it was fine, but I had some transmission issues and the tranny shop removed the plug-in and reprogrammed the computer to eliminate the AFM. If you know someone who can reprogram, I would highly recommend. They did mine "for free" after the $5,500 tranny replacement.

How many miles were on your 18? Im currently at 72k. I didnt know anything about tranny problems. Is this common?

Yes, the fellers at the tranny shop were impressed that I made it over 100k on the original tranny. It was replaced at 125k. They said I should trade within 50k after that. I have 219k on it now. I also had lifters/cam replaced at 105k. That was spendy. Keep your oil changes on schedule and eliminate the AFM!

I’ve got a 2016 sierra 1500 with the 5.3 and 100k miles. I run the AFM delete module and have had no issues.
I also changed out the tranny thermostat to a cooler one and it runs at a fraction of the temperature it did before, saving the tranny.

My understanding from seeing mechanics discuss this on Youtube is that while the plugin software delete works, is has issues at times long term

Better to do the real mechanical delete if you want to keep the truck forever, and just replace the tranny when it craps out.

No answer just questions.

1 Why?
2 Why not a new AM performance computer?
3 Did you look at Summit?

Whatever you did for that Dodge seemed to work.

I have a 2015 Silverado. My tranny made it to 218K which astonished the Chevy mechanics. I had a good 4.3 that was burning a little oil but still ran fine. Then I got an oil change at Farm and Fleet and they first ruined the pan. Then when they replaced the pan they blew it up. Didn’t destroy it but started the downward spiral. They told me it was fine and go ahead on Vacation to Florida. Got it back home after constantly adding oil. Farm and Fleet said it was beyond what they could do and to take it elsewhere to get evaluated. Long story short they paid me $440 for the pan seal. I paid $6000 for a used engine. I don’t shop there anymore.

Best thing to do also is clean oil. 4,000 mile intervals. 5,000 max. I don't care what anyone says.

Whatever you did for that Dodge seemed to work.

1. Lifter collapsing issue with AFM/DFM in the 5.3
2. I dont think any AM computer will fix this issue without replacing engine parts
3. Summit AFM disabler is 280 and probably the route I will take.

Not sure what you are talking about with the dodge.

You were running a Dodge when we went to Forest.

A new am ecm is not much more than the delete thing.

My experience with ecm is they go bad and you can
chase stuff then buy, one or buy one then chase stuff.
The latter worked cheaper for me.

How does any of that fix a collapse lifter?
Never mind I'll shut up.

That year of Silverado had the 8L90E transmission. They are known for kicking the bucket because GM said they never needed to be serviced. Thats sort of true, if your baby it and its in a car, but in a truck, especially one you tow with it needs service.

I would recommend adding a transmission cooler and installing a shift kit. That will solve most all the issues it has. If not that at least have it serviced every 45000 miles with a good AC Delco filter and a fluid flush.

Any AFM delete will work. A good tune is better but a bit more involved. You can also get the transmission tuned while you're at it. Aside from that always make sure to change your oil every 5000 miles!

LOL I retired the Dodge a couple months ago. It served me well.
