Best choice for material IMO is 1 1/2" square tubing. You need about 11' foot of pull between the gamblel and the base to turn a coyote without re-gripping the fur. What else you need to know?

At least 11 feet and 12 wouldn't hurt. Its amazing how them hides will stretch!

Right cattrax. Mine is almost 13' and that way I'm sure. I've even skinned deer on it but had to lower it and re-grip once. lol

Built this one about 6 or 8 years ago... PLENTY STRONG...just take the pole out of the braced hitch and toss it in the back of the truck.. top pice is NOTCHED and fully adjustable...chain slides into the beam...SUPER simple/STRONG/EASILY removed...

Most of the ones I've seen look like the one above except at the top of the vertical rod, there is another rod that comes out parallel to the ground about 20" (reinforced like the one at the 90degree angle at the bottom is) and has a pulley on it. The pulley connects the cable from the winch (installed near the bumper) to the gramble.

I built one like Whiskey Jacks but I used round pipe. The top piece will slide down in the bottom so you can leave it on the rig when traveling.

Unless you are going to hook it up with a winch or have no place to skin at home just skin from a tree, fence, post, windmill, or put two chunks of wood thru the stake holes on your truck and hook there, can open him on the endgate that way and then hook the hind feet, all your weight can be used to pull the pelt off, if your hands cant handle the pull just buy a pair or two of those duckbill visegrips, clamp them on the pelt and start pulling.
