Has anybody converted #1 longsprings to #11 longsprings by adding a second spring? If so, are there any negatives other than the cost of the second spring?

Thoughts?

If you've got pinch pans on those #1 longsprings, I'd contact Wiss Miss and see if she's got some #11s you could trade!

Some # 1's have jaws that are not symetrical they are curved on the side opposite the spring which could lead to some binding issues when the additional spring is added to that side

I've heard of pinch pans, but don't know that I've ever seen any. The traps in question are Victors, but I don't believe they are pinch pans. Got any pictures?

dunkard, the jaws on these particular traps appear to be symmetrical. In fact, I've noticed that the replacement jaws are the same for both #1's and #11's. At least for Victors anyway. Good point though.

If the jaws are the same on both sides they will be just fine adding the extra spring. I do it all the time. 1.5 longs are the same and become #2's. I won't do if both sides of the jaws are not cemetrical though, even though I've heard it's possible it don't look right and my OCD won't allow it. grin

That's funny ADC, I'm kind of a symmetry freak as well. I've converted most of my #1's already and the newer springs are longer than the originals. The non symmetry bugs me, but I just tell my self the whatever is caught in them will be pulling towards the new, bigger, stronger spring.

Just did these 3 the other day. The springs were so strong I was afraid the base would bend if someone tried to break the trap open over their knee so I added the base plate too. I don't think I could just use one new and one old spring, I'd have to put the two old ones on one trap, the two new on the next. lol

BTW I've never seen a pinch pan #1 longspring either. confused

I had an old spring laying around, and later saw that the jaws on one of my #1s had symmetrical jaws. It was very strong already with the spring it had, but I added my other spring to it. Now it is a very strong trap.
