Would deer meat tainted and bait solution be any good on canines and cats. Ive used bobcat meat and beaver in the past and it was fine.. Just found some freezer burnt deer meat and was wondering what kind of bait it would make.
I am not one of the folks you mention above and believe me I have asked ( and still bug them from time to time) questions of all of those kind folks as they know the game and are nice enough to help you out. If legal I think it is hard to beat deer meat. Fresh (or in this case frozen) is great early and tainted with a good bait solution is great later. Just trying to help. Mac

I've heard from quite a few trappers who used venison in Bait Solution and did very well with it.

It works great for cats, but I prefer it fresh, with the hair on...
Drive by most any roadkill deer in cat country and you will see where a cat has pulled hair on it... on the rump or flank area...
Good Luck and God Bless you and yours,

You dang ol peg legged Sir osipher, what do you think coyotes eat? Your up to no good again aren't you? You been catching coyotes, and a lot of them for quite awhile already, so what are you trying to do by asking such a basic question? Sneakey old cop ya are Sir osipher! Bored today and just picking on general populace again? No wonder they broke your knee so they could slow you down! You know good a well that deer is probably the staple food of coyotes nation wide. You trying to sneak a bait recipe like you did from Asa? Oh your sneaky Sir Osipher! lol

I never really cared for using deer meat for bait etc. ... always felt better was available freezer burnt meat has a very distinct odor ? who knows ? yes, many a predator survives on deer flesh ... another reason to offer them something different at times ... that ol' yote might have just left a deer carcass with a full belly ... then passes by your set baited with deer ... he may briefly work, pass it up all together or who knows even get caught but if that same coyote trots past your set bated with something different, say beaver or muskrat meat he might be far more intrigued to work your set longer and closer although he's just satisfied his hunger with deer ... just some brain farting but something for ya to think about my area isn't horse country where it would be natural so I never give it a try the fact that you aren't in "horse country" should have little or no impact on it's effectiveness ... if anything it will/should add yet another dimension of curiousity to your bait ... this goes for just about any or all non native bait/lure concoctions

I have used freezer burnt deer meat with a good bait solutions on it in every state that I have ever trapped in, and that covers most of the USA. Never had any problems with refusals.
This time of the year the annual migration of the orange breasted doo doo birds are moving through the woods, killing, and crippling deer daily. There are loads of ofal piles, and deer meat scattered about everywhere in woods or rough country. No it is not freezer burnt, but it becomes a very important part of predator meat supply.
Good bait solutions, just enhance the odor of the meat it was applied to, and keeps it from freezing or tainting more. Applied with a bit of taint on meat, it becomes louder and stronger odor than the original tainted meat, because it will not freeze, the odors carry better on freezing nights and days.

Spur - "When you add a bait solution the odor that is most noticeable is the solution itsself, The meat is mostly a carrier for the solution odor."I make two different baits using my bait solution. One is called Beaver Medley and has slightly tainted beaver meat and my bait solution. The other is called Bobcat Medley and has slightly tainted bobcat meat and my bait solution. These two baits smell completely different, and the only difference is the meat. So, in my baits soaked in my bait solution, the meat does make a difference.

Aint it cute how this new upgrade allows me to turn a certain word, or phrase into a link regardless of who types it? I like these new bells and whistles, but will take me some time to figure them all out.

They are about equal in sales. Some swear by the beaver, some swear by the bobcat, and some like using both. Sales of both have been increasing a lot over the past couple of years.
