ok i have a tailstripper tool and ive been tryin to remove the tail bone from coons. i cant get the tail out for anything. it seems way harder than it should be. is this normal? ive tried using pliars, a tool, ive jerked, and even hung my weight on the tail and i only get about 1 in every 5 or so to fully come out. am i doing something wrong? how far down the tail do you skin? this seemed to make a difference to me.

any advice is appreciated.

iskin down about half way before even trying the stripper, and make sure I have the hide loosened up well around the tail/back. also don't pull the tail stripper, hold the tail stripper and pull the tail out,a nice sharp tug usually slides the tailbone right out.

I usually make a cut about a third of the way down, and get it skun to that point. Then grab the base and pull like crazy

First off... you gotta at least cut a third way up the tail. And when you get that far, you pull the tail. The tail stripper is mostly just to stop the fur going with the tail itself.

God is awesome

Do a "search" for "tailpuller2" and you will see a puller that can be made that will give you LEVERAGE to strip the tails. Some are hard to start by hand but go easy once they get going. Coons start hard and leverage will help.

I just pull an cut an pull an cut till I can comfortably get the large hole in my tail stripper around it then stripper in one hand coon but in the other and pull oposite directions, just pulling down doesn't really give a solid enough pull to get things moving but by holding the tail base and pulling the other way makes a world of difference.

It works a lot better if fresh, frozen tails tend to be dried out a bit and they won't slide off well.

You also don't want to squeeze the stripper too tight. Some strippers will dig into the tail instead of stripping the fur off.I'm sure you'll get the hang of it.
