Trapped 4-5 chucks for a customer before sealing in the deck with wood/harware cloth. A week later calls me says he saw one more woodchuck run across the yard, had me come back to try and get him. It’s been almost a week with decent weather no chuck, traps been empty. When is it safe to terminate the job? I need my traps for other customers,

I explained to customer if neighbors also have woodchucks its difficult to trap every single one of them since new ones an eventually move in. Thoughts?

I have a one week termination date on my contracts.......unless I'm still catching - then they stay. I always explain we can't get them all and if they are on the neighbors property, you'll need written permission over there; ie, another customer. I have had customers split the expenses and even have had HOAs kick in some money.

If the customer just saw a chuck run across the yard, and you already sealed the deck, where did you set your trap? Did he dig under the deck also, or did you just make a baited set in the middle of the yard in hopes of catching it? Regardless, if it's been a week and no chuck, remove the trap(s) and go set them for other customers where they will be more productive.

Explain to the customer, if you see another one (here's the biggie...THAT'S DIGGING) give me a call. You're waiting a rogue chuck, and potentially losing customers in the process because your traps are being utilized in an unproductive setting.

X 2 with time limitations, may have them under a deck or still have a few dens around, here where I am, large property boarder woods, so sometimes it pays to set the deck & a couple positive sets around close dens. this way, less call backs. I hate to deal with housing associations, always a problem to get everyone to want to rid the problem, some just don't care.

No digging, there was a re-opened den entrance down maybe 60 feet away from the sealed deck. I set a positive set 2 door Comstock right at den entrance no bait. No chuck

Agree, they’re on the lake and I explained there probably are other chucks in the area we’re just trapping the ones on your property.

Pull it and reseal. That chuck was just looking for a spot.
