You mean when you could get a spare for under $5 and there was no battery to go dead? I bought a spare fob on line and had it programed at a locksmith. It seems like it was $50. It took a few minutes was all.

Pony up you tight wad, lol. Shelly's car was over 300 for a new key! I miss the old days when you didn't have all this sensor crap on everything.

when you have both keys they can program the 3 rd to match...Ford USA dealership did mine for 30$ but the sobs in Canada wanted 80$. Every several months you have to use the 3 keys to keep them matched.

you buy the phone and scanner to program but they credit you back apparently when you return it.

think about buying as many key fobs as the truck allows you to program or at least one extra because , you can program extras for later then as they fail just pull the next one out of the well labeled envelop you keep in your file cabinet and use the backup.

I was able to buy extras for my daughters mini van and program them up it is not quite this complicated for the older van but I have a spare at my house for when they break the ones they have.
I didn't get mine from toms as I didn't need the scanner to program the older van it was like the hokey pokey of window up , window down , with a fuse out , then start and turn off and it beeped at you those I got off amazon
just saying with all the hassle it is sometimes just better to plan for the future failure by adding more fobs.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Yeah it also was nice when the auto manufactures had a outside lock on both front doors instead of only on the drivers door. Anything they can cheapen out on with the new cars they do it. Technology is not always good or an improvement.

This. And I have found that the best way to find the most reliable private locksmith in town for FOB programing and keys is to call a used car dealership and ask them. A lot of used dealerships get their cars from nation-wide auctions, and as such many are missing FOB keys. They have the connections.
A month ago, I had one made for my wife's rig. Dealer wanted $225. Private locksmith did it for $75, and he provided the key.

Just doing what I want now.

Paul -don't know if you have a COSTCO by you but they have a company that travels between stores that does it and I hear its cheaper than a dealership. Folks were lined up when they were here last time. Car Keys Express I think its called

I've seen this at Sam's. Just a van in the parking lot, and they only do fob's.

Got up with a local locksmith and he did two keys and two fobs for a lot less than the dealership wanted.
