Here's the ones I made, built to last 1"X2"X12.5ga 36 long wire 14X14 cages the wire is coated after it welded "galvanized/zinc" coated 22 cages out of a 100 ft roll. I used a 15" X100ft thin roll to cut down on waste that way. I just trimmed an inch off of the 15 in wide roll and I had a back cover piece then cut a front piece that allowed for more cage blanks and extra cages being made. If a guy preferred he could cover the back and bottom with one continuous allowing for more main cage blanks. I used blunt 12ga hog rings to avoid fur damage also.

Since I got you here just curious, did you make like a jig to bend your frames on or did you just cut and weld Everything together?

The guy I bought my cage trap building tools from, made an all steel break that bent square corners.
It would bend up to 4 foot long wire.
Some people bend on a wood frame somehow.
Never weld cage wire.

Buddy has jigs for everything he was building cages for the pheasant/sportsman’s clubs out here until the wire market collapsed he bought wire by the semi loads but the guy he dealt with was replaced with a new guy that was hard to deal with. He had a welding class of students making the frames and bending the wires. He keeps promising to drop off the supplies but it hasn’t happened yet. He still has some wire but I’m not sure how much. I’ve got enough wire to build 20 plus cages myself.

My guess is Klubertanz sold out or retired maybe, they had some lower prices on stuff that should of been more expensive last year now it makes sense.

Bass rabbit supply looks to be the place to get real wire from now (US stuff) it looks to be located S/W of Springfield MO but that wire is not cheap. I can’t find any updates on Kluberstanz they still show a WI address after moving to IN a few years ago?

Mmm, that's gonna be the man deal for me , gonna be loosing my mind trying to get everything perfectly bent . That reminds me , anyone. Tried using MAP gas for heating up and bending 1/4 rod ? I need to hurry up and get a oxy torch but till then was thinking. One of them lil MAP gas torches would be helpful vs cold bending

You can build a simple bender for making corners, no need for a torch.

Lady I worked with her husband is a bender at trail king trailers she said add the material thickness to a bend to keep your detentions correct. If that helps any.

I built a table with a half inch top , layed out my 1/4 inch rod patterns , drilled and tapped the table at each inside corner of my patterns for a 3/8 bolt , then just cut the heads off the bolts and bend (With heat ) and all mine come out exact . you could use thinner metal just tack nuts on the bottom.

If I remember right they were over $100... maybe $125 a roll. That had to be 20 years ago. I still have some of either roll left but now that I am retired I probably will build a few more cages and probably will have to get another roll. I am sure I will be kinda sticker shocked when I see the price. But it pays to build cages heavy duty. All the traps I make have 1/4th rod frames and endgate. There is enough cheap junk around. The cages I make to sell are always bought by locals who bought cheap crap and after trying to catch critters that got out always come to me wanting to fix their trap. I usually sell em one I made.

Hey Wolfie... I cut my 1/4" rods to length... then I took a flat plate 1'4" thick and welded guides to it to hold my bottom frame exactly in place. I welded upright small angle iron to hold my Posts or stud rods in the right position. Tacked everything solid. Take it out of the frame jig and then weld the top frame using my jig only I don't weld uprights on this top. Take out the top frame and lay it on the bottom frame uprights and tack and then weld everything solid. I have a nice Square steel frame to wrap my wire around.

If you’re serious about making a bunch of them I would layout a metal plate measure carefully then drill and tap holes on the 4 corners of the main frame they can all be the same basically the peddle and door rods go on later anyway.

When cutting the length cut 1/2- 3/4 inch shorter, each bend adds 1/4 inch is 1/4, 3/8 will be 3/8's
Make sure when you bend the next bend, the center of your last bend is the point to use for the next bend.
Or you'll have a messed up frame.

I have a pair of bolt cutters with a rod bender on them. Works smooth and easy. No heat needed,,,,, but I think cutting the rods to length and welding them is easier and faster, at least it is for me.
