Regular, offset, laminated really doesn't matter as caught is caught. It's more a question of what you can live with on potential foot damage. Wider, smoother, offset being the easier on the foot end of the spectrum though simply filing the face smooth and rounding/breaking the inside edge of a regular can go a long way to make things gentler on a foot.

Lamination does strengthen a set of jaws against flexing and popping out of the frame if you got hard pullers but if that is a concern, you're better off starting with a stout enough trap in the first place. Again, just my opinion but lamination for me would be for those times you might be limited to just smaller lighter traps like trapping around domestics or maybe traps for a raccoon/fox line that could hold the occasional coyote. Lamination does add weight to the jaws and could potentially slow the trap.

Pan ears aren't welded together. They require adjustment after every catch. Sometimes you can't even get them to set again without taking them back to the shop. These are a great example of a trap thats dog on version is better than the dogless. Similar design as the Monty's but not quite there

Gotta live up to the nickname...

I would go closed jaw . I’m currently waiting to order regulate jaws for some Duke 1.75 and 3 that I got off a coyote trapper. You can catch everything in closed jaws. You won’t catch much in offsets if you get to trapping ponds. Down here our yotes aren’t big I’ve caught mine in duke 1.75 closed jaws no mods except I add swivels. That’s also my go to trap for otter and catch lots of incidental coon however I think the no bs 1.5 would be a better coon and mink trap if you not using drowners. And the duke #2 would be an awesome coyote/ otter trap if it has regular jaws. Ifyou order the Berkshire steaks get the heavy duty with the pointed end. The regulate ones do not hold well in our soil learned that mistake the hard way

thanks! you think I should just get a bunch of 1.75 instead of #2s and #1s for coon yotes and cats

listen money cant buy happiness but it can buy traps, fishing lures and guns witch is practically the same thing.

I use everything from number 1 to number 4 it really depends on the situation. But traps are kinda like tools you get more over time if I were starting again I would buy 1 dozen no bs 1.5 and one dozen duke number 2 square jaw. You can cover a lot of bases with those two traps. I use the 1.75 because it’s what I found cheap at the time I had planned on getting the number 2. The 1.75 is a good trap but the 2 would be better for yotes and otter. I will say go 1.5 instead of number one the no bs are about the same price as duke and come laminated with double jaws

Yep, this style is my favorite.
