Making a main thread on a different animal was suggested on a different thread because of the huge success of the 2008 Weasel Thread which has a copious amount of information.
If anyone has pictures, videos, questions, or want to add anything we could help out many folks who seem stumped when trying this style of trapping. Snaring underice is an exciting way of taking these critters too.

I have some underice beaver sets out, baited snares along with some 330's in runs or supposed runs. I struggle big time with finding these runs. Any pictures of run locations around house especially flowages with alot of dead trees and snow would be great. The few years that we have good ice before snow is alot easier because of the bubbles but with snow it seems like I punch hole after hole looking for hard runs with little success.

Looking forward to your pics Slick! Ice and snow slows everything way down Bob. I wish I had a snowmobile so I could get around easier, but I am on foot and snowshoes. It makes for great excersise!!

One of the Best sets I've used... Especially Mid-Winter is the White PVC "feed" set...
Hang the 330 or 660 by two wires just below the Ice about a Foot or so... trigger on the bottom with a 6-7" piece of 3/4" White PVC drilled and slid onto the trigger wires, triggers bent sideways after the PVC is added...

Twist the wires around the Long stick which spans the Ice hole(near a feedbed) and lower the trap into the water...Make Sure that the Trap is cabled or wired with a separate wire/cable and up through the hole to the stick... When the Beaver swims around the feedpile it sees the White PVC and thinks its food... and WhaMO one dead beaver...

Usually 2-3 feed sets are added at each active Feed Pile edge...

330,
Wrap that piece of pipe on the bottom jaw with wire and you'll get more beav. Tighten your trigger up really close and move to the side as far as you can.

I have tried that, and prefer the trigger loaded with the White PVC on the Bottom... That way the Whole Opening is available for them to swim through...I'll take pics later...

I need to use those 2 sets, Mole and 330, at a few of mine! I have a slow flowing river location that is puzzling me with finding the runs. These sets sound perfect!!!

I have tried mostly suspending the trap with wires, don't have much experience with poles. Wires can always be used regardless of water depth, and the trap has some play so the beaver is not tied down to an immovable pole which can cause rubs. See you at the meeting Scott.

Hi madtrapper, Thanks for the reply, the one thing I forgot to ask about was does the suspended beaver float up to the ice and freeze to it? There must be another Scott W on here. I'm from Northeast Iowa. Would love to come up to the meeting (in Isle?) but have to milk (goat dairy). Scott | | |
