Just wondering how clean people flesh their coyotes.

Do you just remove the heavy fat/meat? Flesh it 100% clean? Etc.

Any input would be appreciated.

Did I mention I HATE doing coyotes?

just make sure you get the fat and all the bloody tisues and membranes off. Then it should be good.

There is a fine line between perfectly clean and shaved too thin. No fat, no heavy flesh and you should be fine. Do what you think is an excelent job and ask your fur buyer to critique it. A good buyer will tell you everything you did right and wrong

Our winter coyotes here in Alberta have a thin layer of white fat on the hide and it should come off.

I don't have a problem with the way the coyotes I process grade. I run a supply business here and a pelting service as well; and skinning for 52 trappers I'm trying to find ways to speed up the process.

I usually regard coyotes like mink; remove heavy tissue/fat; if there is fat under the saddle remove that as well. However; when I start to remove that little bit under the saddle, or even just the heavy stuff the saddle usually ends up coming off and I end up basically fleshing the thing clean and this takes 20-30 minutes.

As I said; I don't have problems with my coyotes grading tops (they got to NAFA), and even fleshed "clean" our 'yotes are the eastern variety and probably have a tougher hide than the average western 'yote.

Just looking for input that might trim my work time down.

I just get the fat, and leave the saddle on them.
