Excellent as always Shannon. Probably one of the best instructional videos I've seen on TMan.

Can you explain what the gritty powder is on the hide and why you use it? I have heard of people putting sawdust or borax on the skin before fleshing but have no clue why they do it.

Thanks again!

Nice " How to" video....How long did it take to learn the correct angle so you don't cut the hide? Thanks for sharing it. Tom

I'm curious about the gritty powder on the hide and why you use it, too.

Grit made from Corn Cobs is to drum the fur before fleshing to condition the fur. And I use the used grit from the drum to soak up the grease and fat from the skin and also to protect the flanks and tail from grease while I am fleshing that area. Buyers do not deduct for it.

Nice video. I don't mean to nit pick but there is absolutely no need to scrape the head. In the time it takes to do the head I can just about have a coon completely scraped with my necker. Wish my video camera worked, I would show how to speed scrape a coon. Start to finish in under 3 min. Anyone want to come over with a camera and film it for me?

Yeah, that's them little Iowa coons you do so fast. LOL I'm sure you can do the Big coon also in 3 minutes or under, but you get alot of practice too. I would like to see Dave make a Video from start to finish on putting up coon.

Let me re phrase that. Most coon in 3 min. or less. There's always a few nasty, big old boars that take a little longer.

Where do you get the grit from the corn cobs? Also, what do you mean by "drum the fur"? It seems like the fat and grease is somewhat dry, do you let it set for a certain amount of time before you flesh it?

I get the grit from a Ranch Fox Farm. I believe National Pellt Company out Wisconsin handles the Grit. It comes in 50# bags. I will get a picture of the drum I made to drum the coons I do.
