I have read that rotten eggs make good bait. Im wondering what animals to use them for. do i need to hard boil them and then peel them or just use the whole egg without boiling it?

Synthetic rotten egg is available and it's a lot easier to work with.

It takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile, but only 3 for a proper trigger squeeze.

Eggs are used as bait for stoats in New Zealand. Ordinary supermarket hen eggs can be used, but it is believed that stoats are more likely to be attracted to white-shelled eggs compared to the more common brown-shelled eggs. Rats may also be attracted to eggs:

in my area the eggs in the supermarket are white. In some areas of the country they are brown. I would guess they are attracted by the color more than the egg itself. I would bet that using white ping pong balls with a few drops of synthetic fermented egg would be a great visual/scent attractor.

some trappers in the 40s and 50s had access to farms with range chickens being fed for butcher, theywould pick up a couple hundred gallons from several ranches and then boil the in 30 gallon drums fresh or fairly fresh, common setups were several traps in a unused cow trail and cut up chunks of eggs shells and all spread out on the trail, another was to scoot a narrow path through a grassy spot or even alfalfa feild or planted wheat feild and set 2 traps in the trench, eggs were scattered through the trail, seemed to get lots of fox, and other varmits that were killing the free rangeing chickens, i have not heard of anyone doing it from the fur boom on, except for rotten eggs in a enhanced bait or lure.

SFE has been known to cause cancer! Fresh duck eggs placed in a clean glass jar and placed in the shade and stirred every few days will swell up and have the consistency of mayonnaise. Kept in that jar in a cool place, it will keep for years without any preservative.

Nextyeartrapper, boil the eggs first, it's easier to use them.

V.V. makes a very good point on the egg base( and here I thought that was a big secret). That formula is one of the slickest ways I know of to keep and handle eggs. It does not rot as one might think. It produces a mild egg creme almost like a topping on a lemon pie. It mixes well with a lot of stuff. I have used it in lure formula for almost 20 years. Fresh Peking duck eggs are the best! I too have heard that SFE does cause cancer. Few people realize what some of these artifical lure ingrediants contain in them.
