How do you measure beaver to see what line you use on your beaver board??

When Beaver used to be put up ROUND. Before skinning I would measure the beaver's length from nose to base of tail. That dimension would be what I could get for the diameter of the strectch pelt.

I stand a beaver board up and hold the skinned/fleshed pelt by the nose so it hangs naturally from my hand...

...I then hold it against the rings so the nose is at the top of the appropriate ring and the bottom is 3-4 inches below the bottom of said ring...

...works for me.

Mark has a method I like, but never got around to setting it up. Maybe he'll post some pictures of it.

you measure from head to base of tail and multiply that by 3. then you measure the width and multiply that by 7. then divide the two numbers and whatever you get add 2 and then subtract 6.

Hang the fleshed beaver from something like a nail. Measure the length-from nail to tail. Take this length-add half of the length plus 2" to the length. This is the line one uses.

I have all the line on my boards marked with the appropiate inches. Just use the line closest to the measurement you have.
