as far as i know, it only comes in one color..as a powder its red, turns black in the water.

with time, it will come off in the water i guess, i dunno, i only do land traps with it.

but its still necessary, i think. i know at least one pro trapper, who catches alot of animals, only cleans then waxes. but, for me, my traps have to at least start dyed, but eventually wears off.

dye w/ logwood, and wax land traps, speed dip water traps, works for me, if ya speed dip your land traps better give em plenty of time to air out, or you will have lots of dug up traps.

Yes, clean, dye, and then wax.

Clean - some like to use Sani-flush (do not add to hot water) or stuff like that, I usually use some dish detergent and boiling water for awhile, then hit with a power washer.

Dye - log wood dye and let simmer right at or just over boiling for an hour or a little more, then let them dry

Wax - fill a galvanized bucket or something with enough wax to fully submerge your trap, cable stake, chain, drag, whatever, leave the trap in for at least 30 seconds to maybe a minute - long enough for the trap to get hot. Remove from wax, give it a shake or a swing and hang to dry.

You should put a nail between the jaws for the whole process so they get coated with dye and wax.

Oh yeah, and I wouldn't recommend dyeing and waxing water traps. Speed dip is fine. I waxed my water traps once, I figured what the heck, I was already doing my land traps so why not. I come to find out that if you wax a 1 1/2 single longspring...when you swing the spring over to get the jaws to set flat, it won't stay all the way over.

You shouldn't wax conibears either.

Oh, and after you wax your land traps, you'll want to use a knife or something to remove the wax from just the area where the dog and pan meet so the trap doesn't fire prematurely and fires all at once.
