here is another set i made where i found tracks of a mink running the ice way way doen the ditch. it is like the last 1.5-2" off the ice and a very loosely started trigger and yet again should have took more time on the sides.

I like to take wads of grass, roll them up tight and make V's.Then take the V of grass and place one on each side. The idea is to use the V's to hide the trigger somewhat and to force them over the trigger.I mentioned a little lure or fish oil on each side of the trap and some said no,I respect that and understand the reasoning but I think it helps to get them through the trap.If they make it through or around, that scent may get it to work back and forth through the trap giving you a little more of a chance. If they are thinking about and concentrating on a smell they are not paying as much attention to the trap.Another thing you can do to help your chances is a piece of fine wire or a piece of fishing line between the tips of the trigger.

Kyle,

This mink is teaching you how to catch him. This is how you learn to adapt. Keep trying and adjusting. There are several things that I would do differently but that doesn't mean that what you are doing is necessarily wrong. You will learn more from the mink that you miss than you will from the ones you catch.

Every once in a while you will get one that for whatever reason will try and avoid them. Last year I had one do the same thing. A few days later we had a big snow and I had a friend riding along. We came to the location where the mink went around my bodygripper and there was a nice male mink caught securely by the neck. I told my friend what had happened a few days earlier and was feeling pretty good about catching that mink. I hadn't changed a thing. I left it just the way it was. Well, a few days later I could see where another mink or probably the same one that did it before, avoided that same trap. He didn't get a chance to avoid it again because I was able to track him in the snow and he went downstream and got caught in my next set.

Keep observing and keep trying.
Good Luck!!

Randy

Is that a 120? I would go to a 160 or a 220 and open it up. Everyone says they go through them. But you have a better chance if he go throuth then if he refuses it. I have caught more mink in 220's then I ever have in 120's.

That is a 110. i would get some 160's and mabey single spring some 220's but we cant use them on dry land, i dont know if ice counts on dryland but im shure it dose so ill have to stick to my 110's or 150's if i get some. thanks for the replies and suggestions!

I would quit messing with that one set and just make other sets around there.
