YJ: Hard to explain that to people. All the time to pick them up prepare them for shipment and then make the 60 mile in my case round trip to the nearest postal drop/pickup is a pita. In my younger days everyone wanted to buy the sheep drops I found but if you figured the hours involved humping in and out you would be better off selling happy meals.

yukonjeff, do we leave the front legs inside for the lynx? I never saw that before, only on fox. Maybe I never did them right(lynx)? Would turning the otters fur side out be beneficial?

akmarten no need to turn your otter if anything it does more harm than good in the long run

The tines on those antlers could be cut off and would fit in a flat rate box very easily! grin

I tracked this one back to the den several times and we think it is the vixen that had 3 kits this summer. There is another one that does the welfare gig occasionally and we think it is one of her kits. She ran him/her off several times kinda like I had to do with my three kids when they would come back to raid the frig.
She has gotten plump this winter but it was below zero when I took that photo and they tend to puff up the fur when sleep like that in the cold. The welfare system is totally nuetoring her natural skill set as she sleeps looking at the door my bride comes out of to feed her. Normally they sleep with there back into the wind for the scent and there tail over there face with periodic eye scans down wind to cover all the bases.
I have no clue how old she might be. I read somewhere they can live to the age of 10 but most of them in a wild environment live to the age of three.

There was talk tonight about the lack of Dental care because many of the Dentists that specialize in certain needed practices ( Periodontics and Orthodontics , for example) are leaving the State and heading to greener pastures. (Who could blame them !! )

How hard is it to find a Dental specialist in Alaska that offers reasonable rates ? I know that around here , many people end up going to the local University Medical School for treatment . Cost is 1/3 to 1/2 what a regular dentist would charge and they do just as good a job. Is there such an option in Alaska ?

My soon to be 5 yr old boy woke me up early this morning and asked... "Is it time to go check traps yet?" grin

It looks like it's 7 degrees above zero. So, him and his brother will get to go this morning. Hopefully with any luck we can connect with our first ever cat. If not, thats ok, it will still be good a good time.

I would rather go to jail for spanking my child, than have them go to jail because I did'nt.

Cold, (by Juneau standards, anyway) all week here. Single digits, with high winds. Gusts over 80 mph. Not sure what the wind chill is, but will try to run my line tomorrow. BRRR!

Just doing what I want now.
