Speed dipping is a trap preparation process in itself....you do it early....and let em hang outside in a shaded area...they'llbe ready on opening day...good as gold....but dipped traps tend to get sticky in warm weather..regardless....with my limited arsenal....I boiled my dirty traps and tried to wax em (mid-season) wax just don't adhere very well to that dip....this is why I quit using dip.....hope this helps scott
I'll be doin fine..underneath the pines....while the world goes down the drain...(montgomery gentry)

do u wax your coon traps too? do coons care about the rust smell? Also, i was just gonna wax all my fox traps, which is about 1 1/2 dozen. how much wax do i need for this. coons can be caught in unwaxed traps all day long.....2 lbs of wax should get your 1 1/2 fox traps covered if melted in a large coffee can
Insert profound nonsense here

Will pure paraffin work?
That is what I have been using since about 1983. Got tired of buying over-priced beeswax from supply dealers. Paraffin is a lot cheaper and can be gotten at any grocery store. This means I can get more if needed-now, not a week or two later if bought from a supply dealer.
Waxing traps does not "seal in" odors. It is only a dry lubricant allowing the parts to move easier. Also, it allows the trap to spring in part frozen ground. Not completely frozen, but where the water in the ground has begun to freeze, but not all is frozen yet.
Unless kids are brought into trapping; trapping dies of old age. Remember; Rush Limbaugh is always right.
