Chuck gland lures are very effective for ground hogs, coon and other predators.I have been building and using gland lures for woodchucks probably more than most I would venture a guess. Being that woodchucks are extremely territorial in nature the effects of using a gland lure create intense curiosity in that specie.Particularly when it is not an odor they recognize intially of a family unit member or mate.
Woodchucks are quite confrontational at times and solitary by nature for most of the year.So when a new invader presence is detected they will seek out this new animal source hence the value of a gland lure is quite compelling as a result.
I have caught hogs with gland lure in use with other lure and bait presentations and have used it as a stand alone with success. I prefer to use it with other elements to ensure I have covered all the bases so I dont need to reset or relure and bait for that animal.
A well built hog gland lure is sort of like the silver bullet when added to a grounghog set up.I developed a woodchuck gland lure back in the early 80's when I found the relationship between the attraction that hogs had to feces, urine and gland musk excretions.I have used it ever since and we catch all of our hog target animals usually within a few hours to 1 or two days in most cases.
