I just put the PIT Style Pans that Sterling makes on 7 dozen Duke 1 3/4's. So far I like the way they are tuning up. I'll answer for sure about March. LOL

I'm running them on number 3 northwoods and like them alot. Pan tension is fine and they are consistent. I only trap coyotes with them so can't answer for any other species.

I put them on all my traps with a dog. I love them. Once adjusted there is a consistant pan tension without the constant pan adjustments common with a bolt, washer and nut. I have all mine set at 3 1/2 lbs and it took about 10 min per trap to install and adjust tension. Havent had to readjust tension in 3 years.

Are you using the improved miles trigger system Palerider?
I just tried it on a couple traps the other day I like it a lot. If lynxcat will ever do a pictoral on how to modify them longs there might be a few more miles trigger users.

With lynx now banned don't expect the pictoral from him anytime soon.

Palerider you're a staunch opponent of the PIT system, I've seen you post this before. Can you elborate on why you don't like them? Please. Thanks!

ADC.....What I had so much headaches with was pan tension.I would bend the dog down, but still wound up with 6-7 pounds.I've missed 'cats with this much weight. The tip of the dog from what Charlie always called the "klicker bump" to the very end of the dog was soooo short in making a short fall of the pan I could never get the very tip bent enough to help much in lighten the pan tension.Bending the dog back behind the "klicker bump" wouldn't lighten the pan tension enough.I finally just gave up and went back to my old pans.

Never tried then Gary.

Thanks Palerider I figured it was the tension adjustment giving you fits. I wish I had a good solution for you on it. Any I ever used never had that many pounds of tension on them.

Palerider, Is it possible you were bending the dogs down too far back towards the trap. I.E not bending just the tip with the nipple on it. Has the design changed? I couldnt believe how fast I tuned 3 doz #3s and #2s. It only took about 2 min per trap to bend the tip of the dog right behind the nipple to get my desired tension.

One thing I have noticed is that there is a difference in the amount of bend required between offset and standard jaw to get the same 3 1/2 lbs. Must be the increased distance between the pan and the jaw on the offsets.

The improved miles trigger just takes the end of the dog and bends it into the notch. Much easier and lasts much longer. doesn't wear out like the regular miles does so I hear.
