Cool thread! I have always been a smear and go or a pocket set guy. I like to gang set the good spots. Here was one of my favorite pics this year with the smear and go set
I have to admit the dp traps are pretty cool too. I had to use more of them this year because of the drought. My lil trapping companion liked helping me get these guys out of some dp traps this year.

Thanks

I think square buckets or wood boxes are a better choice, only problem being wood boxes do not stack.

Don't put a bottom in those wooden boxes and they will stack very well. You can use 1x1 inch wire to build folding cubbies. Cut each side out and put them together with rabbit pen clips and use tie wire to hold down the back.

what kind of sign do you want to look for when trapping coon, where are they most likely to make dens?

God needs more critters in heaven - I aim to please him.

I'd say that most trappers who look for sign for 'coon, look for tracks...espcially pre-season.
Dens and feeding areas would be 2nd and 3rd choice.

I would also like to know what everyones favorite leghold is. Getting back into trapping coon after 20+ years. Been out of the loop for a while.

One of the best 'coon trap I've used in the past , was the Old B&L No# 1.

The Duke 1.5 is a very good trap too...and I'm not a real big fan of Dukes but gotta give props...

11 LS if you're going for exclusively coon. If you're gonna go with the 1.5, you might as well bump up to 1.75 and have a coyote trap to use as well.

Is the Urine Post set used at all for coons. Caught a huge coon at a post set for fox this year, wondered if that was normal.
