Dirtholes and flat sets are effective for coons. There's really no difference other than bait/lure used.

I use the exact same sets that I do for fox. A dirthole and a scent post near by with a squirt of fox urine and a dab of fox gland lure.
It takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile, but only 3 for a proper trigger squeeze.

probably caught half my coons last year on dirt holes. If your on location they dont have to be very noticable. There nose will lead them there.
Welcome to Club Coon. Patterdale stud services available.

Sometimes it is hard to keep them out of dirtholes! Meat, fish or sweet should do the trick. I like large backing where/when I can. I think it gives them something other than the trap to focus on.

Kids who hunt, trap and fish don't mug little old ladies.

Around a farm house, try this: Crescent shaped backing of dirt. Stick a Shiny white golf ball in the dirt inside the crescent at the bottom so about half is sticking out and it can only be seen from one side. Squirt some lure on that side as well (whatever lure you want - urine works too)... Bed trap about 4 to 6 inches from the golf ball.
Life is not how many breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away.

You got coons that play golf in Ohio? I've used broken egg shells the same way, put the dirt over it so it looks like a whole egg partially buried.

The golf ball is eye apeal. Stands out at night. Shinier than an egg. No golfing that I have seen but they might... never know...
