Warrior in CA we can't use snares for fur trapping only nuisance trapping. If you read our regs they are confusing. I really think that is the goal. I haven't had coons mess with them yet. I normally do a dirt hole or a scent post nearby to throw off the non-targets.

Sorry Swamp Wolf. It was me that you paraphrased and I saw a problem where there was none. Hope you accept this apology. Paul

I'd be more than happy with that. Screw the GTA and the fur and live market trappers, I've supported them and hoped they would support the nwco (especially when over half their members are permit holders) but it's high time us guys trying to deal with coyotes in town get the tools we need.

Dirk...I thought the power snares could only have a 5in loop in Ohio for certified nuisance trappers.

Snares that have an attached device to continually assist in closing, essentially designed to function in a lethal manner, are limited in size. The collarum is designed to function as a non lethal snare the exact same as our "relaxing" lock snares. It does have a spring, actually two. One to place the snare and one to start the closing process. Neither spring is permanently attached and both fall away once the snare is activated. However, just like the "relaxers", if they are set in an entanglement situation they will be just as deadly!!!

I know that is a lot of technical stuff for what should be a simple answer, but that is the interpretation that was given while working through the new laws regarding their use.

On a side note.

Dog wardens have been allowed to use collarums, and in fact have used them on numerous occasions, to capture roaming dogs in Ohio. I think that speaks volumes about their safety.

Several have borrowed mine when they needed additional ones.

No problem. Just looked back at quote and saw where your quote was paraphrased. Only a little misunderstanding.

Take care!
