I got a darned packrat cleaning out our strawberry patch...thought it was a rabbit at first but upon inspection under our deck this morning I saw a giant cache of strawberry leaves, dog brushes, scraps of fabric and other assorted stuff a rabbit wouldn't pack off. Didn't see the packrat under there or I'da shot it.

Soooo...time to have some fun. I have some big rat traps, #1's, and plenty of 110's. Was thinking of laying a marten box on it's side and throw something tasty in the back...Anyone got any other creative ideas? Baits, etc?

Have only trapped a few, eat traps did the trick.

Told a friend who has the garden issue too, she got 10 in 4 days!

If there anything like our wood rats they're easy to do with rat traps and fruit based baits until you pinch one.

Rat. Sorry.

Oh and one in the same with wood rats. Folks just call em pack rats due to the hoarding.

I trapped pack rats in AZ and found them fairly easy to catch in rat traps

I think someone said some time ago maybe Bob J. that if you missed them once you'd know it for a long time, so I suppose still take the precaution
of bedding them solid.

They make some amazing hoards! The desert hoards are awesome! They look like one of those "boma" fences from Africa, they pile up prickly pear pads or cholla cactus chunks all around the exterior of the hoard. Good coyote and bobcat deterrent!

There was a study done in TX where quail used old clumps like this and had better nesting success than those that didn't. Good PR for the packrat (woodrat).

Problem has been solved.

Big pan Blake and Lamb SLS at the entrance to its hole. Didn't even make it to the baited sets.

Use a box and 120 or 120 conibear. Use an onion for bait, a packrat can not resist an onion.

I usually use a Victor T-rex trap.
