http://youtu.be/6SPaXnmlFzAThe bats I've dealt with have all been big and little browns. Can anyone recognize what bat makes this sound. The bats were in the firebox above the damper, so all I could see was guano. They were very loud with a almost electronic static sound and very loud.

Will swifts and bats inhabit the same chimney? There is guano accumulated on top of the damper. That is why I thought it was a bat.

Not bats, chimney swifts. Regardless of the chimney swifts, bats will not be found in a chimney with a slick flue tile. Flue tile chimneys are a death trap for bats. They can't crawl back out.

We recently had bats going down the chimney to the first joint from the top. The mortor was missing and they were climbing through the gap. An occasional bat would fall down to fireplace.

That is certainly a situation that would provide a good roost area. I've done a few chimney exclusions where they were entering the cracks/gaps in the crown and would roost in the space between the flue tiles and bricks.

Yep, textbook swift sounds, and ditto all the above about bats in chimneys. Actually, chimney exteriors are some of the best bat entries.
