What is everyones favorites?

I normally just trap them and then seal the house but today I met a customer who doesn't want them trapped and removed she instead wants them excluded using one way doors. I have to assume she was researching removal methods on the internet.

I assume PVC in a straight downward angle would probably work but figured I would ask you guys who do a lot more flyer work than I do what is best.

Thanks

I'm like you Nate, Trap and remove. I can't help you with this one. Whats her reason for this method? If the flyers don't have a second residence death is the result. I relocated flyers to my house many times just to find our cat walk thru the front yard the next day proud of his catch.

I have to believe she realizes death will be the result if they are relocated and thinks they have the best chance for survival if they stay on location.

I have kept flyers in the past but not looking to house a colony through winter. I already have to many projects that are taking up my life.

Just a question. If not removed from the area, won't they just chew back in?

Good question Jim. They didn't chew in this time. House is a fake log home and has 3" square holes in the dormer that goes directly into the soffit. House also has bats and no attic.

Was thinking pvc at a 90 degree angle and about 12 to 18 inches straight down will be my best option to prevent them from climbing right back up.

She was actually one of my college professors.

The mentally ill lady called me last night asking if the increase in crows in the area was a sign of something evil that was coming.

Said she read on the internet that large amounts of crows mean evil is on the horizon. lol

Is just me, our area, or what? Our flyers have really soft teeth ( I've been bitten enough to know ) and except for enlarging a hole, I never seen a flying squirrel chew in ever. They use woodpecker holes, cracks under dormers, screens that raccoons have ripped open, etc. Kind of like bat work if you ask me.

Paul we live so close and in most cases it seems like we live in different parts of the Country the way things are different between our areas but we are the same on this one.

I have never seen a flyer make his own entry hole. Gaps in dormers seem to be the #1 entry point followed by the woodpecker holes.

I can't be 100% sure that the squirrels won't chew back in once locked out but I think the chances they won't is greater than 50% and that is enough for the customer. Only one way to find out for sure.

I have seen them chew back in. The biggest difference between fliers and greys in my experience is that greys if not removed once they have established in a structure almost always will chew back in even to the point of creating a hole from scratch. Fliers on the other hand are more opportunistic in taking advantage of existing gaps and limiting their chewing to no more than is needed to enlarge an existing gap. The reentries I've seen with fliers are always a missed spot or loose area of the exclusion.

I've had two jobs where they chewed their way back in within weeks. I won't use them anymore. Trap and remove. If you do it , let her know there's no guarantee. The last job they chewed a perfect round hole right next to the round wood plug I had installed to fill old one.
