Just curious to how far some of you fellas will go for a beaver removal job? Had a customer call and I went and inspected the site, very easy access, right off the road. There are two sites, my total mileage is 250 miles round trip.I'm still concerned about all the travel time and mileage. It is a one time eradication and payment when job is finished. What do you think it is worth? Thanks for the help.

Don't forget all your permits and tax paperwork for working in the town. Have all your insurance paperwork ready as well.

It doesn't matter if its fur season or not. If working for timber companies you will need your paperwork. If you are working for a city or town you will need a city work permit.

Had a customer call and I went and inspected the site, very easy access, right off the road.... It is a one time eradication and payment when job is finished. According to this info, it is not a fur trapping job. The words "customer" and "payment" would indicate to me it is a commercial job, not being considered a hobby or fur trapping. In my own wildlife control business I would never travel that far for anything other than bat or bird work due to our daily trap-check laws making it (usually) cost-prohibitive, but I realize for many of you the service area could be larger than mine. I know a lot of other WCO's and have their numbers in my logbook, and frequently provide the number of a closer operator for the person to contact. And.... if fur trapping season IS open, I'll suggest they find a local fur trapper to deal with the issue if there are no WCO's around the area. However, I have found MANY times that property owners (especially large properties or corporate accounts) are afraid of the liability issue of having a fur trapper take care of it. Those type of people will insist it is dealt with on a commercial level, as they are much more comfortable knowing the operator carries liability insurance. The insurance is NOT for the operator, it is to protect the customer. Amazing how many people can't grasp that concept. Early last fall I tried talking a local farmer (owns tons of ground) into waiting 6 weeks until fur season so I could remove the beavers from one of his lakes at no cost (fur value), as I've been fur trapping for over 40 years and still try to take care of local folks during season. However, he doesn't allow anyone to hunt, fish, or trap on any of his ground due to liability fears. He insisted I take care of the problem using my nuisance permit and charge him whatever I want, as he only felt comfortable having it dealt with on a commercial level.... for HIS protection. The answer to the question? If you're doing it as a business, consider all costs, possible problems, and your desired profit. The many variables in such a job can really make pricing a challenge.

Excellent job Ron....Well said We have hundreds of sub divisions and golf courses. If you don't have liability insurance, you wont work , not even for free trapping.

Thanks for the advice.I've decided to take the job.I figure to have the job done in 10 days.Since S.Carolina has a 48hr.check law on water sets, no more then 5 trips.Plus I might stay there and check, adjust traps for a few days.Plus as a bonus, I have another job that is half way to the new sites. And yes, it will be worth it, as I charge $200.00 per day,per site.I also plan on setting the area very heavy. All permitting and landowner permission slips will be in place very soon. A Happy Holiday To All. Dale
