mabe 1'' from center...as you can see from the pics I had 2 at 2 1/2 or so.
I found that the closer together they are the better it works. do not bend the conduit like
I did it makes it tougher to get it off. also apply a little presure inward as you turn to keep the
sprial tight. the wire was 9ga. and about 20'' long

If you use a solid 'twist bar' it is easier to feed the wire though, Instead of feeding the wire though 4 holes, you only feed though two, both of which are outside the bar. I use a piece of 1/2" re-bar. It saves you time if you are making alot of them.
Also, A phillips screwdriver works good instead of the rod, It gives you a handle to grab on to. Reversing the twist a 1/4 turn when done also releaves pressure on the rod/screw driver, making it MUCH easier to extract

You could cut your wire length by half...you don't need that long of a pigtail. I make my swivels with 10-12 inches of ceiling grid wire.

That's the way Newt taught lots of guys to make them in his videos. Works pretty good with lighter wire. You'll have a hard time if you try to make them out of a more durable 9 ga. wire.

Anyone know who this guy is?

The thing is, those wire swivels seldom work on the line like they will in your hand.
IMO, they don't belong on snares. They 're junk for the most part and part of the reason cable kinks to start with .
They are a false sense of security and will never perform like a double barrel swivel or trap swivel.
Use them if you want to but, when you loose animals due to twisted cable, don't complain!

Agreed, wire swivels on large animals like coyotes is a joke, Waste of time, waste of money... On smaller critters they are fine but still do not perform as well as the swivels LT mentioned.. JMO smile

When you are making your swivels use a larger mandril for the center, it will give you a larger throat hole for reduced grass/debris clogging. This is where most swivel failure occurs, when the cable rolls in the throat of the swivel grass will wrap up inside of it. A larger throat hole will keep your swivel working a lot longer. In have made several thousand of these type of swivels for the snares I use personally, and for the snares that I sell and have had nothing but positive feedback on them. 9ga galvanized for yotes, and 11ga galvanized for everything else.
